Up close with a Grey Phalarope

 A wonderfully tame Grey Phalarope was at Rough Point this afternoon. Quite a treat to see it feeding just 10m away.

Red-breasted Flycatcher on Valentia Island

 The fourth record for Co. Kerry.

The first Kerry record of Red-breasted Flycatcher was on the Tearaght, Blasket Islands, way back in October 1890. The second was at Dunquin in October 2019 (see HERE), and the third, also at Dunquin, in October 2020, is documented HERE.

A fall of Phals

 There was a flock of seven Grey Phalaropes at Scraggane this evening, with two more off the beach at nearby Kilshannig, and another singleton at Rough Point.
