White-tailed Eagle, Cloghane Estuary, March 2010
(D.Farrar). After his initial appearance at Cloghane, this bird (white letter ‘K’ on red wing tag - a two year old male) returned to Killarney National Park before reappearing in Connemara on 13th May 2010, and the Mull of Kintyre, Scotland, in October 2010.

Wilson's Petrel, off the Blasket Islands, August 2010 (Anthony McGeehan).
Wilson's Phalarope, Ventry, September 2010 (Joe Adamson).
The extraordinary journey of this bird were summarised in the recent Irish Rare Bird Report for 2010 (see the IRBC website HERE). "The wanderings of the individual first seen in Kerry, then Wexford, followed by a visit to Wicklow before eventually returning to Wexford are almost too extensive to believe. However, detailed analyses of photographs taken at all three locations prove that all these observations involved just one bird, with the October record in Wicklow involving a second individual. In particular, the photographs show a distinctive pattern of retained juvenile crown feathers and identical subtle dark sub-marginal markings on the inner greater coverts on the bird’s left wing (K.Mullarney, pers. comm.). It is interesting to note that this individual was seen at 0830 on 24th September at Kilcoole and by 1650 had returned to Tacumshin, a journey of about 120 kilometres."
